Order activity remains chilly

  • Order activity for semiconductor equipment slipped to 47 degrees
  • All segments dipped a degree with the exception of DAO which has held at the same temperature since December 30th
  • The January data is in from the Taiwanese manufacturers and the sentiment across the board is negative with the exception of TSMC who bucked the trend and increased sales in January on an annual and sequential basis
  • The decline for Subcons accelerated further in January, declining 15% from the previous month
  • Turning to memory, Nanya fell 6% sequentially and plunged a massive 67% from January 2022
    • Nanya hasn’t seen monthly sales this low since 2012 which is a testament to the current challenges facing memory manufacturers
  • On the Fabless side, MediaTek plummeted 42% sequentially bringing them back down to early 2020 sales levels
  • TechInsights’ CPPI continued to lose ground
    • DRAM fell
    • NAND flat
    • MPUs flat
  • Equipment orders peaked in October 2022
