Apple Takes M5 to the Max in the MacBook Pro

Apple’s M5 series introduces a new three‑tier CPU strategy, revamped GPU, advanced packaging, and faster LPDDR5X and PCIe 5.0 storage.

Microprocessor Report evaluates the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max, as well as offers predictions on an M5 Ultra. For the CPU, Apple adopts a three-tiered core strategy that separates the M5 Pro and Max from the entry-level M5 and the mobile heritage of the A19 and A19 Pro. Other new attributes in the M5 series include a significantly overhauled GPU, changes to product configuration and segmentation, utilization of TSMC’s advanced packaging capabilities, and adoption of faster LPDDR5X DRAM and PCIe 5.0-grade SSDs.
