Smartphone sales forecast up for 2025–27 on strong iPhone 17 and easing tariffs; down for 2028–30 in between price swings, policy uncertainty, and used phone demand.

TechInsights has slightly revised its global smartphone sales forecast upward for 2025 through 2027, supported by the better-than-expected performance of the iPhone 17 series worldwide, easing tariff and trade war concerns, and recovery signals in select emerging markets. However, the forecast for 2028 through 2030 has been revised downward, particularly for many emerging markets, due to anticipated price volatility and cost pressures associated with mass-market smartphones. Meanwhile, President Trump’s second term is expected to ensure ongoing policy uncertainty and volatility through 2028. Additionally, the rising demand for second-hand and refurbished smartphones will continue to cannibalize sales of brand-new devices.
