Vivint Smart Home Enters a New Era under Energy Giant NRG

In December 2022 Houston, Texas based energy retailer NRG announced a definitive agreement to acquire Vivint Smart Home. The deal, which was closed in March 2023 for $2.8 billion in cash, marks a new era for Vivint as part of one of the largest energy retailers in the US. This account is based on a discussion we had with Vivint President Rasesh Patel and Jim Nye, Vivint’s Chief Product Officer, on June 2, 2023. They described the synergies of the two companies as well as a new smart lighting product line to be introduced in August 2023.
