Rising Wafer Production Costs for Most Auto Chipmakers in 2025
2 Min Read December 8, 2025
Analysis of wafer production costs using Semiconductor Manufacturing Economics (SME) for IDMs and foundries relevant to the automotive semiconductor supply chain.

TechInsights' Semiconductor Manufacturing Economics (SME) has wafer production costs for hundreds of specific processes at fabs worldwide. Our team analysed wafer costs over time for a selection of companies using SME data. Data was for both Discrete/Power semiconductors and ICs. Although SME includes frontend and backend costs, this analysis focused on the frontend costs (up until sawing/dicing into individual dies) for IDMs and foundries important to the automotive semiconductor supply chain. Companies included in the analysis: Analog Devices, Bosch, GlobalFoundries, Infineon, Intel, Microchip, Micron, Nexperia, NXP, onsemi, Renesas, Rohm, Samsung, SK hynix, SMIC, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, TSMC, UMC, Winbond, and Wolfspeed.
