This report is a detailed structural analysis of the Li-ion polymer battery employed in Samsung Galaxy 6S Smartphone. The pouch cell of the Samsung Galaxy 6S Smartphone lithium-ion polymer battery is composed of graphite anode, polymer separator and lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) cathode. The graphite and LiCoO2 grains both have a layered structure with an average particle size of approximately 20 µm. A single layer of porous polymer separator is located between the cathode and anode. The long strip of electrode stack (separator/anode/separator/cathode) is spirally wound and followed by sealing and electrolyte filling. The electrolyte was identified as lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6). The reported results are derived from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).
