TechInsights confirms NAND and DRAM providers in Huawei Pura 70 Ultra

Unveiling the hidden origins of NAND and DRAM components, explore Huawei's strides towards a fully Chinese smartphone amid geopolitical pressures.

TechInsights has recently undertaken a teardown and technical analysis of Huawei’s Pura 70 series of smartphones and finds that the packages containing the DRAM and NAND Flash in the Pura 70 Ultra provide no external markings indicating the manufacturer. Despite this obfuscation, Huawei is making progress toward building a fully Chinese smartphone, with the NAND Flash storage made in China, though the DRAM is sourced from Korean manufacturers.

TechInsights teardown of the Pura 70 Ultra found the use of Samsung LPDDR5X DRAM, matching a part first observed in Samsung’s Galaxy S23+ smartphones, released in February 2023. Huawei’s use of Samsung DRAM is noteworthy, as political pressures from the Chinese government and trade restrictions imposed by the US government are forcing the company to turn toward Chinese domestic manufacturing and suppliers, such as CXMT and YMTC, which produce DRAM and NAND, respectively.
