How SMIC joined the ranks of Intel, TSMC, and Samsung

Last summer, TechInsights’ experts discovered that Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) used 7nm technology to manufacture the MinerVa Bitcoin Miner system-on-chip (SoC). The last node we saw from SMIC was 14nm, so this is a big jump in technology. With the sanctions placed on China as of late, this advancement is impressive. Despite SMIC not having access to Western equipment and technologies, they were able to develop the most advanced technology product TechInsights has seen from them to date.

A Disruptive Brief by TechInsights’ experts explain the significance of this SMIC 7nm process discovery from both a technology and market perspective and the resulting size and layout of the MinerVa Bitcoin Miner SoC.
