The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a minor upgrade over the first-gen Watch Ultra. It features the same titanium case, same set of sensors, and an OLED display with the same resolution but with a much higher peak brightness of 3000 nits – the brightest display ever sold by Apple, and a slightly bigger battery (2,190 Wh vs. 2,105 Wh).

Internally, the biggest redesign is the main board, featuring the new Apple S9 SiP (System-in-Package), double the non-volatile memory compared to the first-gen and a new Apple U2 Ultra-Wideband module allowing for locating the Watch with very high precision using other Apple devices.

The main selling point of this year’s model over the last seems to be the new double tap gesture, which is probably supported by the new S9 SiP, as TechInsights didn’t find any new sensors, except for an upgraded MEMS Accelerometer and Gyroscope, that was also used in the iPhone 14 line-up.
